Welcome to the magnetically you podcast. My name is Madison Surdyke and I'm a master mindset coach and food freedom expert. You're in the right place. If you want to manifest a life, you jump out of bed excited I have every morning, reprogram your mind for success and happiness, feel your best and become magnetic to everything you desire. For me healing my relationship with food was my gateway into mindset, spiritual and personal development. And now I am obsessed. And I realized the same thing that came true for so many of the women. I've coached through my course the subtle art of food freedom, and doing the inner work around food became about so much more than food for all of us. So that's what this podcast is really about that expansion, expanding that inner work to all areas of our life so that we can become the most magnetic confident versions of ourselves and achieve our biggest dreams. If you're like me, and you're obsessed with personal development, then you are going to love this podcast. So let's freakin do this.

Hi, welcome back to the magnetically your podcast. I'm your host Madison and I have one of my very best friends here today at Jaclyn DiGregorio. She is absolutely amazing. She's a motivational speaker, mindset success coach and best selling author of stop getting in your own way, which I've read. It's absolutely amazing. Everybody needs to go get it. Now when she was 21, she started her first business from her dorm room at Georgetown University. And she's been featured by Forbes elite daily bustle and Washington Business Journal. And her book has been featured on Good Morning Washington and again, like the book is just amazing. Jaclyn, such an amazing friend of mine, we met at a business conference last year and I'll just tell the story because I think it's like a fun story. So this is like, probably my first like really big business conference were into business by design by like James Wedmore he has this big event. It's like 600 people and I show up and I'm like, I don't know anyone here like, ah, like, what is this? And I go to I like walk immediately when I walk in the hotel. There's like a water station with like water with like fruit and I call it Sassy Water, but I'm not sure anyone else calls it that. Um, and Jaclyn is getting Sassy Water. So I'm like, and I saw she had like the necklace like name tag BBD thing on some like, Oh, she she's going to the same place as me. So I'm like, I should talk to her. She could be my friend. So I was like, I think I said something about the water. I was like, oh, like, you can like Sassy Water or something like that. And then we just started talking and I remember you were wearing that shirt that said hello sunshine. And at the time my brand was called sunny times and like sons were very meaningful to me. I'm like, this is a sign she's going to be my friend. And then literally like, I feel like it's like I'm talking about a relationship but from the rest was history. Like we just became we headed off and came became like such close friends. And we literally talk for hours a day on boxer. Um, and yeah, Jaclyn, just such an amazing coach. And I'm so grateful to have her in my life. And so grateful to introduce you guys to her. So with all of that I will let you tell more about your story and kind of what led you to where you are today.

Yeah, thank you so much for having me. I'm so grateful to be here. I'm so grateful for our friendship. And it was definitely divine timing and meant to be so anyone who's looking for Soul Sister friends, in your business or in your career or just in life in general, trust that they're on their way to you and be open because I think that was really powerful. But my journey goes back to college. When I thought that I wanted to do corporate marketing. So I was a double major in marketing and international business and was the my junior year and everyone was looking for internships and I'm like, okay, I want to get a corporate marketing internship. I'm going to climb the corporate ladder, I'm going to be like a CMO one day because I think marketing's fun, and I'm going to live my dreams. So it's kind of funny, because oftentimes we think we know what we want. But we don't actually know what we want until we start trying things. And Marie Forleo says clarity comes from action, not thought and I really love that because whenever people are asking me like, Well, how do I know you know what to do with my career or what I want my life to look like or anything really, when it's a How do I know? Well, the answer is action. I could have never predicted that I would be doing what I'm doing now if I didn't just start trying things. So that's what I did. I tried the internship, and I quickly realized that it wasn't as fulfilling as I thought it would be. I just didn't love it. And my My first thought was, I will feel fulfilled if I work towards my own goals rather than someone else's. So I wasn't dreaming up this big grandiose vision of like changing the world, I was literally just like, why would I work for someone else and make money for them when I could work for myself and make money. For me, that sounds more fun. That sounds more fulfilling. And I share that because I think it's important. Like, sometimes we feel intimidated by people who have really big, audacious goals. And I just want to express that, like, they come one step at a time. And when you reach, it's like Maslow's hierarchy of needs. It's like, I had no fulfillment at all in that job. So like, the only thing I could think is like, well, maybe I could find fulfillment if I worked for myself. And then once I started working for myself, it was like, I need to make enough money to support myself. And then once I started doing that, it's like, I need to help more people, how can I reach more people and I go to different levels of different goals, and through the process. So when I started my business, I had no idea what kind of business I wanted to start what I wanted to do, I had never heard of coaching. I didn't really know motivational speaking was a career. All I knew about business was Shark Tank, because I watched it all the time with my parents. So I thought I need to create a product because people who have businesses sell products. So I would write down ideas for products every single morning for like a month, the whole month of August, before my senior year of college, I wrote down different ideas. And I just decided that I was going to pick one. So before I went back, I think it was the day before I moved back into college. I was like, Okay, I'm just gonna pick the best idea. So I looked at all my ideas. And my best idea at the time is a really crappy idea, which was to make these plates that encourage healthier eating. And I thought it was a great idea at the time, because it was really personally relevant to my own challenges. And I went on this journey to make it happen. It took many months, I got a waitressing job on campus to save money to buy these plates. I found a factory to work with overseas and I coordinated the whole thing got the plates going. And I quickly realized once I got them that they weren't a good idea. They weren't really selling, they were really hard to ship. The pricing was really crappy. There were a lot of challenges with it, as well as like my own personal passion was starting to slowly shift not just from food, but into like holistic wellness at that time. So like overall wellness, well being in general, not just food. So I thought, well, I could take this idea and I could turn it into an app. And food could be one part of it. And we could also include like fitness. And just like general well being into the app that way, it could be something that people could use. And my target was called students. So long story short, I raised money on Kickstarter to fund the app. And it didn't work. I worked with three different sets of developers. We beta tested it with real people, like hundreds of college students, and it would crash when they were using it. It was super embarrassing. And this was the time where I really thought about giving up on my business. I felt like I don't know what I can do. I felt a lot of insignificance because I didn't have an education and health. And so how was I going to help people with that. And I thought if I created a product or service, that was way I can help you with that. But every product or service I tried to create hadn't worked. And now I had invested it like two and a half years into this goal. And I had seen virtually no progress, no profit, we were still losing money, of the money that I put in of my own money in the money that I raised on Kickstarter and things like that. So I was really, really down and thought about giving up, you know puttered around trying different things, took some college classes thought maybe I wanted to become a dietitian didn't like that either. Again, it was just like all trial and error, and listening to what felt good. And following that. And basically the whole first two and a half years where nothing felt good. So I just kept trying different things. And one day, I had this thought of what am I good, because I literally felt like I was good at nothing. And it had really shit on my confidence for like years and years of just like failing, especially the outside noise of people who never really got my business in the first place or never really understood that I was trying to create a career that I loved that I didn't want to go into corporate and often made like comments about things like that. So now I had no proof of anything and just kind of really questioned everything. But then when I asked myself, What am I good at? It made me feel like maybe there are unique gifts and talents that I was born with and that I have that I can use and maybe I'm just not using them. And I think that this is a really good question to ask no matter what stage of your life or career you're in because we all do have those unique gifts and talents and oftentimes we're just not using them. And when we use them we feel really fulfilled because we love using them. So when I asked my myself that question. I looked back on my business for the past two and a half years. And I looked at what was working, as well as my childhood and what I was good at, as a kid in school, you know, what subjects was I good at all of that. And the thing that came to mind was speaking, because in school, I was always the one who gave the presentation. I never really had to practice. I always felt comfortable going up there and giving the presentation. Although in kindergarten, I peed my pants during your presentation, but not because I was nervous, because I thought the school bathrooms were gross. And I refuse to use them. So I would hold it all day. And then one day, it was my star of the week and kindergarten, and I was in the middle of the presentation and I peed my pants. Like everyone could see that I peed my pants during the presentation, because I just couldn't hold it in anymore. And the teacher sent me to the principal's office to like, get a new uniform because I went to Catholic school when I was young. And I got my new uniform, I change and I had my old uniform in this plastic bag. So literally everyone in my class could see I peed my pants. But I was so embarrassed about it, that I pretended I couldn't hear them when people ask me if I peed my pants. So like my friend, say Kim would be like, Jaclyn, did you pee your pants? And I'd be like, Why? I can't hear you.

I just like yeah, it's really funny now. And like all all my friends who were in my class in kindergarten, like remember it vividly. But anyways, I did not pee my pants because I wasn't confident it was just because I was a germaphobe which I still kind of am. So it makes sense. I like clean spaces. And those bathrooms are not clean. But I digress. So I was always good at public speaking in school. And then in my business, I had to use public speaking as a marketing tool. So I had gone around to different colleges locally. And I had shared my story about struggling with an eating disorder in college to get more followers on Instagram, get more women on my email list, because they were my target audience. And I thought, Well, once my app comes out once my plates come out all these different things, and I can market to them. But I had nothing to market to them. But the thing I did have was an engaged audience, I had a following of a few thousand people that liked what I had to say, that would message me after my speeches and told me I did a great job. And they really resonated with me. And I also want to mention here that I wasn't perfect at speaking. I mean, we're never perfect, but I was probably like a seven out of 10. And that's like a generous, maybe six and a half is more realistic. I used to talk really fast. I used to say like and a lot. But even though I had all of those kind of faults with my speaking, I still have this stage presence that was captivating, I still felt confident on stage. And that's something that came through. So I still want to work on this craft. So I want to mention that too. It's not like it came so easily to me that it required no work. I had to learn about how to become a better speaker and I had to make a conscious effort. But I noticed I'm probably better at speaking than the average person. And Fun fact, public speaking is the most common fear in the world. And it wasn't a fear of mine. So I was like that's a good. That's a good sign. While I do feel nervous before I go on stage. I don't. I don't really feel a lot of fear. It's just like normal nerves. Butterflies, you could call it I guess. Anyways, I leaned into that. So I decided after nothing was working that I was just going to become a motivational speaker. My parents thought I was crazy. I told them on Christmas Day, they were really upset because it was Christmas. And I ruined it by saying I'm going to give up on everything I've been working on going totally different direction. They were super confused, worried about me. And if I was going to be successful, basically dropping all of the effort I had put in for years. And I leaned into it. And when I leaned into it literal magic happened in my life. My business went from making $11,000 in 2018 to over 100,000 in 2019. And all I did was like, decide that I was going to trust my intuition. Get behind something I was actually good at work on improving that craft. And the most important part was I fully believed that I could do it and I started speaking and acting as if I already was doing it. So when I would meet people at networking events, I would say I'm a professional speaker, I give keynote speeches at colleges and conferences. And it was sort of true. I had given keynote speeches at colleges that were just small, and they were not paid. Does that mean I hadn't done it? No. But even if I hadn't, you don't always have to be truthful. I think that's where people get caught up. They want to be always telling the truth. So then they can't speak what they're creating into existence by saying this is what I do. It's true. This is what I do. I just haven't gotten booked yet, doesn't mean this isn't what I do right now. I remember getting my hair done. I got my hair highlighted because I want to feel confident on stage before I had booked a single gig. And I told the hairstylist that I was a speaker and I was going on a speaking tour. And I was going to all these places across us. And she's like, Oh, where are you going? like normal conversation? I'm like, Oh, crap. What do I tell her? Because I haven't booked any yet. And I was like, Well, I'm coordinating with a number of colleges and universities across the country. So I'm in the process of finalizing them. So I'm not quite sure yet. But it'll be places from East Coast to West Coast. So it'd be really cool to get to travel so much.

I just like, yeah, I'm in the process of working it out. I'll let you know. No. And I just like owned that. And I think that that energy of like, I'm doing this, this is what I get to have, I'm creating this. And I'm good at this. Therefore I'm worthy and deserving to get paid abundantly for this gave me the confidence to charge thousands of dollars for these speeches gave me the confidence to actually like, do all this outreach and get on these sales calls. And I just really got all of my energy behind it. And what happened was, this speaking started going really well. But not only did the speaking go well, but then people would ask me after my speeches, can you help me start a business? Can you help me figure out what to do for my career? Can you help me feel happier and more confident, or whatever it was that they wanted to work on. And so I'm like, I guess I should look into this coaching thing. And so one thing led to another, that's how I wrote my second book, I had written my first book in college while I was working on the food stuff. So that's what my first book is about. But my second book is called stop getting in your own way. And it's basically all of the things that I did in that year 2019 to 11 x my whole life like not only did I 11 x my income, I love index, my happiness, I love and accept myself worth my relationship. I got engaged that year, like it's no coincidence at all this stuff. I bought a home that year, I went from zero dollars, you guys never really paid myself. Like I had no money. I was living with my parents. I picked up side gigs to like, be able to buy a used car because my car broke like, it was bad. And my fiance, who was my boyfriend at that, at the beginning of that year, he was like, let's try to buy a house this year. And I'm like, I have no money, like, how am I gonna buy a house and he's like, you can save it. I'm like, okay, so I set a goal to save like $25,000. And I saved that within like six months of the year, which I just think is so awesome. And all of that came from that self belief, continuing to trust, like it was worth the two and a half years prior, that kind of sucked, but I made the best of them. And I kept believing that my success was around the corner, and then it was. So that's kind of my story and how I get to where I am today with life coaching.

I'm working on my third book. I give a lot of speeches. Many of them are virtual right now with Coronavirus, which is a fun, new challenge for me. So yeah, it's been a really beautiful journey. Um, do you want to unpack it at all? There's a lot in there. Yes, I obviously want to unpack the whole thing. So prepare yourself. I'm just kidding. Um, okay. First of all, I want to ask you, what was your first speech? Like, because I've ever heard this from you? were you I would be like about to shut my pants. Yeah, it's funny you asked because I don't even remember which one was my first one. Like, that's, I think, I think my first speech actually was my friend's sorority. And it was pretty big. Like it was like probably 100 women. Yeah, I'm like nine, nine percenter. That was the first one. And I had PowerPoint slides. So it wasn't like I really memorized much. And I was just kind of like, sharing about what I was doing. Like, it wasn't very good. Like, it wasn't like, like, now I know how to like write a speech with like, stories and lessons. And it wasn't really like that at all. It was like, Hey, I'm Jaclyn, this is what I do this what I'm passionate about. Here's my story. And yeah, I mean, I was definitely nervous. I'm always nervous. I like to tell people that because sometimes I talk to people who want to be speakers or want to share their story with the world in some capacity. And they're like, Well, are you nervous? And I'm like, yeah, I'm always nervous. I literally think I'm gonna vomit. Sometimes I remember. I gave a pitch for this pitch contest at George Chung to win funding for our businesses. And I actually ended up winning $15,000 there, which was super awesome. But it was to these like very, very prominent DC investors that were super successful, super well respected. Like to even get a chance to talk to them was like a huge honor and hearing I'm like, pitching my ideas. And at the time, I was pitching my app. And I ate chick fil a right before the pitch. So it was kind of like a speech because I was memorized. I you know, was going through these slides. And I remember I was in the parking garage with my parents because I had actually just graduated and so it was open to like recent grads, so I was living at home. My parents drove me there. came to watch and cheer me on. So we're sitting in the parking garage where our cars parked. And I have my head between my knees. I'm like, I'm going to vomit. And my mom's like, Oh my God, why did you eat chick fil a, like, you should have known this. And this point I had given like many speeches before. So it's not like this was like a brand new thing. So it's always scary. And when you're doing something that is important to you, that you care about, fear is inevitable. It's always going to be there. And but what my TEDx talk is about is it's about courage and how courage is the result of having more self belief than you have fear. So I look at it like an equation. So courage equals self belief greater than fear. And so that's, that's what it was, I cared more about the message I was sharing with those women than I cared about my fear. And while I was nervous, and I probably did a pretty crappy job again, talk super fast, probably said like an hundreds of times in that speech, people still liked it. In fact, years later, I got a message from a girl who was at that exact speech. And she became one of my clients, and she's still one of my clients to this day. So it's pretty cool to know how you can really impact people. And it's a good example of like I was talking about one thing, then, and I'm talking about something totally different now. And a lot of those people came with me. So it's not about the fact that your experiences have to like perfectly line up to where you're going. But each experience is shaping you, and serving you in ways that you cannot even see or possibly comprehend. So trust that like, if you're in a crappy internship, or a crappy job, like, there's things about it that are serving you right now. And you're meant to be there. So just trust that trust that you might not possibly be able to imagine how this current experience is going to serve you 10 years down the road, because you're like, these things aren't even related to where I want to be in 10 years. But they all are, that's how the universe works. It's magical. So yeah, that's how my first speech was probably pretty crappy. I was definitely nervous. But I just showed up, and I did it. And I kept doing that over and over and over again, and again, I kept wanting to improve. But I want to mention that it wasn't from a place of scarcity. So it wasn't from place of I suck, I'm an awful speaker, I'm never going to be able to give a speech without saying like, or, um, I don't know how to slow down, I talk naturally fast. And that's just who I am. And all these like limiting thoughts. Rather, it was like, I'm awesome. It was so courageous of me to get up there and share my vulnerable story about having an eating disorder, and connect with these women and inspire them. I'm the same age as them. How cool is that? Rather than, like, Oh, they won't respect me, because I'm the same age as that, like, literally every thought, there's a counter thought, and a way that you can spend it in a more positive way. So I would lead with those thoughts. And then I would say, and imagine how much better This speech is going to be when I can slow down when I can say it without like, or, um, and imagine the impact that that speech is going to have. So I'm excited to keep working on it. I'm excited to keep improving and practicing, because it's only to help more people. And it's already helped so many people. So it's just a really different energy to approach like being a beginner at something. And I think that that's kind of the takeaway here. Like, no matter what it is you want to do, you might not want to be a speaker, but you might want to start a business, or you might want to write a book, or you might want to make a career change into an industry that you've never been in before. But it's always been whispering on your heart. It's okay to be a beginner, but approach that beginner situation with love, and kindness for yourself, pride for what you're doing, and be open to learning and growing from a place of impact, and fulfillment and the power that it's going to create rather than a place of not being good enough.

Oh, yes, that's exactly what I was going to touch on like that, like really focusing on improving for the sake of growth, seeing what's possible for you playing in the game of like, life and possibilities. Rather than being like I should do this, I have to do this like forcing yourself to do something because you think it's going to fill up some sort of sense of self worth. And it's like we know that like outside and changing things on the outside never fills up for yourself work on the inside. So I love that you call that out. And I think too is like really powerful when you said like you focus on how much you you can impact these women speaking and how much you care for them and want to show up for them and you let that kind of like draw now and override your fear. So would you say for someone who is going into like a scary like situation, whether it's speaking or going out there leaping into something they've never done? before? Would you say like for them to find something that feel that feels more motivating than fear that kind of like drowns it out if that makes sense. Hey, girl, we'll get back to the show in just a sec. But I wanted to tell you about special opportunity real quick. If you are sick and freaking tired of settling for mediocre and are ready to start creating a life that you truly love, I got you. Whether it's starting a business, attracting your soulmate, bringing more meaning and excitement into your current relationships, landing your dream job, or traveling the world. If you're ready to step into the most competent, magnetic successful version of you, so you can manifest a life that's actually aligned with your soul. Here's what I want you to do. If you don't just say of your higher self is nudging you right now. Trust it, pause this episode and do the damn thing. The universe will reward you and support you when you do trust me. Did you do it? Okay, kid back to this week's episode.

Yeah, I love that. I think your Why is everything. And I think at different stages of my business and my career I had I've had different wise, like I was saying in the beginning how it kind of grows as I grow. So like, when you get really clear on why you're doing what you're doing. And most people have like, really strong and clear why's when I first started, my y was definitely my family. Well, first, my first y ever was me. Like, I want to feel fulfilled, because I want to make my own money and work towards my own goals rather than someone else's. And that was a beautiful and perfect why at that time. And then once I realized I started meeting people who had businesses who made millions of dollars, and I'm like, oh, like, because I have a business I can make millions of dollars to and then my why became what if I could help my parents? You know, because they've always struggled financially, what if I could help them, you know, pay off their mortgage faster, retire earlier? Like, what if I could help my, you know, siblings, when they have their kids? Like, they're sending them to college? Like maybe I could aid with the tuition, and maybe I could, you know, just dreaming of all these ideas. And then now at the level I'm at, it's more like, well, what if I could help more people get out of poverty? And what if I could help more people live a life that they absolutely love, and, you know, it just keeps growing with me. So I definitely think being clear on your why is really important. The other thing that's helped me a lot through this whole process is having a vision of something that makes you feel really excited inside that you can go back to and something you can easily recall. So I have two that I go back to all the time. One of them is walking out on a stage with like hundreds of thousands of people a stadium sized audience, and like they're calling my name, and I'm about to give this like life changing speech and impact like hundreds of thousands of lives in a matter of like 30 or 60 minutes that just like that vision, it's like in my heart, I'm like, I know that that's gonna happen. Like there's no doubt in my mind. And that is so exciting. Because on the times where it's hard and you fail, and you don't have self confidence, when you go back to a vision like that, that just makes you so excited. It doesn't matter what it is, it could literally be I'm going to renovate my home and have like a beautiful space to live in. Or I'm going to take my family on a vacation it doesn't have to be anything like it's whatever matters for you. The other one that I go back to the lot and I share these only to spark inspiration for you not because like you should take the same vision as me. We're all different and we all have our own innate inspiration from but another one that I love to imagine is which is a little bit of a smaller example but it's a deeper impact I feel it's getting on a plane and a random person sitting in the plane has my book on their lap and they're about to read it on the flight. I always am like oh my gosh I can't wait till that happens like just so exciting to me. And and I love to go back to those visions of Yeah, why I want to create what I'm creating and it makes it worth it. It makes all the rejections all the knows all the failures worth it because you you have this feeling inside of you where you know that it's impossible for that not to happen. And you're like, Oh my gosh, I can't wait for that moment.

My gosh, I love that I just got goosebumps when you're talking about the plane example. I love that one, it's 100% happening, I can't wait, it's already done. Um, but I, I love this because it's like that vision brings you back to focusing your energy and attention on what you want. And like we get what we focus on. And through, bringing that mental picture into your mind that you then get the feeling of excitement. And the feeling of excitement then leads you to thinking more exciting, more empowering thoughts, and then more empowering thoughts and feelings, then you're going to take more empowering actions, you're gonna have more ideas, more inspired actions, because your brain isn't clogged with all the negative like thoughts and 70 more. And then it's like, of course, you then create more power and results in your life more magic, you are like opening the door to everything that you want, like coming to you, because you chose to focus your energy and attention on what it is that you do want, which is that vision and you let yourself get excited about it. And now you can feel that now you don't have to wait until that happens in order to feel that excitement now. Yeah,

I love that so much. And there's so much science behind it too. Like, there's a lot of I actually talk about some of this and one of the chapters and stuff getting in your own way. But a lot of really successful people have used visualization as a tool. A lot of like Olympic athletes. My favorite story ever about visualization is it's in the book, I forget his name, the Dumb and Dumber guy. Do you know his name? Okay, it's not theirs or anything in the book. So you'll when you if you read it, you'll check it out. But basically, he was a broke comedian, literally, like driving his like beat up car across LA and trying to like, get gigs and opportunities. And I think he heard about visualization. And he heard about this whole manifestation thing. And he's like, well, I literally can't get any more broke. So why not try it? And he wrote himself a check for 10 years in the future for $10 million. And it was November of I think 1985. And then 10 years later, like Thanksgiving. 1995 he found out that he was the lead in. Would you say Jim Carrey? Yeah, yeah, sorry, came back. Well, I'm so glad you thought of it. Because I'm like, you got I write so much. And I do so much research for my books that like sometimes I don't even remember like the names of who said the quote, or the names of you know, who I was writing about. But their stories, but the story is stick with me. Yeah, so Jim Carrey. So he found out that he was getting the part in Dumb and Dumber, and his payout was $10 million. So it was like, it was like literally exactly 10 years later, the exact amount of money he had said, like, this stuff, it works. And it's so powerful. And I also did that for myself before the same kind of thing with the check. Um, October of 2019. I don't even know how I came up with a number. But I was like, I want to make $30,000 this month. And I only just like, wrote myself a check for $30,000. And I remember, like, I don't know why I had no proof I had never, I had the most I had ever made in a month was like 20,000. And that wasn't even like cash. It was like sales. So in cash, it was probably like, maybe 12,000 or something. So I was nowhere even near and I want it 30,000 cash. So I had no proof, no evidence that this was possible for me. But for some reason. And sometimes I wish I could get my brain to think like this now for bigger goals. But for some reason, I just believed it. Like I was like, yeah, this is happening. And almost to an embarrassing amount of belief. I remember I was at a networking event. And there's this like time of the event where they do like celebrations and it's for like real things that have happened, like, oh, like, I got engaged, or my daughter's having a baby or my business hit six figures or whatever, and people will share celebrations. So I raised my hand and I pulled out this cheque that I had in my wallet. And I was like, I'm celebrating this $30,000 I haven't made it yet, but it's on its way to me right now. And some of the people in the audience were like, what the heck, this girl's on drugs. And I fully believe that I was like celebrating it. And then that month I made 34 k in cash, it was so busy. So I share that because it's like these practices, they actually work when you fully get behind them. And I think that's the challenging part for a lot of people like how do I believe in something that I've never that I never believed in, which is why I love the concept of the ladder of believability that I first learned from Katherine's and kina and her rich fav Academy. But essentially, the concept is like just climb your ladder. So like let's say you can believe that your you can make $5,000 then you can probably believe that you can make 6000 so just focus on 6000. And then once you make 6000 you can probably believe you can make 8000 and once you make 8000 you might be able to believe that you can make 12,000 and then once you make 12, maybe you can believe you're gonna make 20 and just keep going Climbing that ladder to increase your goals and doesn't have to be about money either. It can really be about any goals you have that feel big and scary and far off, just take one step at a time. But yeah, visualization is awesome. I highly recommend you incorporate it. If your goals are financial, why not write yourself a check? Like, it's fun, put it somewhere, you can see it, print one out, if you just Google it. I think there's ones from the secret that are on Google for free, you can just print them out. So yeah, visualizations, awesome, I highly recommend it. I do it often.

Yay, I love it. Maybe we can do a little visualization at the end. That would be fun. Okay. Um, okay. Anyway, so this is amazing. I love the ladder of believability. And it's, it's funny, because I've like, learned it several times, when you just said it, then it like, resonated with me on a deeper level than it ever has before. Because it's like you said, it's like, when we're able to get so far behind what we want. And believe like this, there is no other way like this, or something better is happening for fucking Sure. That energy, like literally makes you imagine every fucking diamond it like, it's like, why not use that to our advantage. And that's what the ladder of believability is, is like use what you can get on board with now to your advantage. And then you can keep taking that up and up and up. And it only gets to get better and better and better. Yeah, I love it. And it's, it's just like human behavior. So um, one thing that I've recently learned about in terms of debt is this thing called the debt snowball. And it kind of reminds me exactly what we're talking about. So like when people are trying to pay off debt, it oftentimes traditionally taught in finance, if you read like an older finance book, or if you even read one nowadays, that's like very numbers based, it will tell you pay off your highest interest rate debt first. So let's say you have three different credit cards, and you have debt on each of them and you want to get out of debt, then it tells you to pay off the highest interest rate first, because that makes the most logical sense, you're gonna pay that down, and then you'll have more money in your pocket. But what I'm more recent research has found is that human behavior doesn't work that way. Because let's say that that one card has $10,000 on it, you're like, I'm never gonna be able to pay off $10,000. And then most people just give up, versus this new concept that is based on human behavior. I learned it from Dave Ramsey, but a lot of people teach it, it's called the debt snowball. And essentially, it's this concept where you focus on the lowest balance. So let's say you have one card that is $2,000, you have one card that is $4,000. And one card that is $10,000. Your goal should be to focus on the $2,000 card, because once you achieve that, you're gonna have so much more energy. And it's the it's physics too, because we always talk about Newton's laws and object in motion stays in motion. So once your emotion you're like, well, I just paid off $2,000 in debt, I'm so awesome, I got this now I'm going to pay off the $4,000 card, then you're literally climbing the ladder first, I paid off the 2000. I believed I could do it. And I did it now because I did that I now believe I can pay off the 4000. And once you do that, now you believe you can pay off the 10,000. And then before you know it, you're out of debt. And so this concept really applies to like, any goals, whether your goal is to get out of debt or increase your income, the common goals that a lot of people have. So I wanted to share that in case it might be helpful for you. Because I thought that was super interesting. And yeah, has helped a lot of people. Yeah, no, I love that you made that connection. Today, I think that's Yeah, it's literally the perfect example. I love that. That's amazing. Okay, so shifting gears a little bit, but I am still unpacking your story. So when you kind of like had after the plate situation, when you kind of just like were feeling like you aren't good at anything, you have this little confidence from like failing and drawing the plates showing up trying these things, and you decided to keep going and like look where you are now. So it's like for someone who's in that in that situation where they feel like they're like giving up or they're not motivated by their dreams and goals anymore, because they're so defeated by having tried so many things so many times so long. And they're so defeated. And they have that feeling of like wanting to give up. What would you say to someone in that situation to get to get them through and to help them shift their gather belief that like, it can happen and it's all happening for them? Yeah, so the first thing I would say is that if the desire is on your heart, it was literally placed there by God universe source, whatever you believe in. It was placed there because it was meant for you. So if you would never have this desire and not already inside of you have the tools, the knowledge or the potential to learn the knowledge that you need to create So the first thing is trust. And when you have that clear why it's like, even if this takes me until I'm 90 years old, like, for example, one of my goals is to read a New York Times bestselling book. I would like to do this within the next five years. But even if I'm 90, I really truly think that I would keep trying, I'd be the 90 year old and Starbucks working on my next book, like I really want, because I know that it's worth it. Like, I care so much about that dream, because the why behind that is like helping millions of people. And I just care so much about it. So you need a why that's strong. And go back to that vision. Go back to that, why have something that you would actually keep trying, even if you were nine years old, that always like picked me back up, like, okay, it would be worth it. So that's the first thing. The second thing is in terms of like more, so science and your brain and how to pick yourself back up. There's, there's two things that really helped me. The first one is remembering is it's an MLK quote, I don't know the exact words. But it's something to the extent of you don't have to see the whole staircase, you just have to take the first step or something like that. And in my TEDx, I talk a lot about this concept of taking the next step. And when I ran a marathon, I felt really overwhelmed in the middle of it. I felt like I couldn't finish that I just, I was so sore. I had a stress fracture in my ankle, I didn't know how I was going to be able to finish running. And I had this realization that what if I just took the next step? And what if that's all I thought about, because every time I kept thinking about the next 14 miles, I just wanted to give up in that moment. But if I asked myself, can you take one more step? The answer was yes. And the answer is usually always Yes. Even if the one more step for you, in this time of feeling really down is literally take a shower today and get a good night's sleep. That's it, ie a nourishing dinner. And then if your next step, the next day is like maybe schedule a meet up with a friend, and just talk about what's going on. And then maybe the next step, the next day is brainstorm a few ideas of where you can go from here. And then maybe the next step, the day after that is implementing the first idea, just trying it one step at a time really helps. The other thing that I think is equally as important, is building yourself belief. Setting aside intentional time every day to write down affirmation, say affirmations out loud, focus on rewiring your brain to believe that you're capable, because here's the thing. If you believe you're capable of creating the thing you want, you won't give up. And I actually studied this for my TEDx, I went back in old journal entries. And fortunately for me, I don't do this anymore. But I used to write my journals in my phone. I didn't even keep a journal. I just would like write notes. And so I can go back pretty far like beginning of college and find, I found journal entries on my eating disorder. I found them like when I first started dating Richie, who's my fiance now it's just kind of funny. And so I looked back on ones about my business. And I reread the words, and I analyzed them to think what was it about me, that gave me the courage to keep going, whereas other people give up. And let's say in the journal entry, there were 100 sentences, 99 of them were negative, we're talking about how much this sucks, how crappy I feel. But one sentence said the words, I don't want to give up on my dreams, because I know I can do this. I know I can do this, those were the words out of my mouth. So I had the belief that I was capable. And so no matter how many times I got knocked down, a belief is one, like, when you believe something fully, it's like there's no other way. Like, if you believe you're capable, then you're just going to keep going. And I feel very fortunate to have had this belief. And I think it came from my childhood, because my dad literally told me every day of my childhood, Jaclyn, you can do anything you set your mind to is his favorite saying, and it really, really helped train my subconscious mind to believe that and whenever I be in challenges, like in school, or in any situation, I've really believed, I can figure this out, like no matter what crappy situation I was in. And while I recognize that not everyone had that blessing to have had those years forming their subconscious mind as a child, maybe not having that support system from, you know, their immediate family, whether it was you know, totally subconscious, that there weren't those kinds of sayings being expressed to you or whether it was you know, a more challenging situation. Either way, it doesn't matter because right now, you are in control of your life. You are not a victim of your past circumstances. You can feel the pain of them, you can acknowledge them, you can forgive them, you can do all the inner work to let it go go to therapy, go to a trauma Coach, whatever you need for that, give it the love that it needs. And know that right now in this moment, you are responsible, you are responsible for your job, you are responsible for the money in your bank account, you are responsible for your happiness, you are 100% in control of your life. And in order to change your life, you need to start by changing your self belief and working on raising it. So that's why the intentional time is so important. If you're super busy, that's fine. You can say affirmations out loud in the shower. Everyone showers every day, I hope you can say affirmations, while you're folding the laundry, you can say affirmations while you're driving, pick a handful, pick one, pick 10, it doesn't really matter, whatever works for you, and say them out loud. And I would say the most important one in terms of this failure is that you're capable, I can do anything I set my mind to I'm capable of figuring anything out, I got this, whatever it is that vibes with you, that feels good to you. But the thing is, your neural pathways in your brain, they form with repetition. And eventually your brain will just accept anything you tell it enough times as truth. So so much of your work is just repeating it, and or consuming content that affirms it. So you're already doing great job by listening to this podcast, listen to more podcasts, read more books, listen to more audiobooks, like just flood your brain with this positivity. Because eventually your brain is going to be like, Oh, that's how it works. And you're going to start believing in yourself enough to pick yourself back up. And today, your goal should be to build enough self belief to just keep going until tomorrow, and then tomorrow to build enough self belief to keep going until the next day. And what I found in my journey is that those moments of wanting to give up, became less often. So at one point, I might have had that once a week. And then it was once a month. And then it was once a year. And now I can't even remember the last time I truly felt like I was going to give up, I can't even remember it. It's not even a part of my thought process anymore. So that's possible for you to just start by doing the work.

I love this. And it just reminded me of one time, I was kind of feeling like this. And I was like Jaclyn like, I know, I'm not going to quit, but like, Man, I'm fucking over this. Like I've literally tried everything, it feels like nothing is working like what the hell and you're like, all right, Madison, like you literally have two options here. two options are to trust or to quit. So which one do you want to choose? And I was like, Well, obviously, I'm not quitting. Like, that's not an option. So apparently trusting is my only option, like, let's go. And that like, was such a huge shift for me to realize that like, these are my two choices. Right now, I'm choosing to focus all my attention and energy on quitting when I know I actually don't want to do that. And it's just making me feel negative. But when I think when I think to myself, I can choose to trust. It's just like this immediately immediate, like shifts. So I love that so much. And I know like something that you've really like grown so much in just like knowing you. So on talking all the time, something that we talk about a lot is that it's not about getting there, like there is no such thing as getting there. And I love how you said like, just think about like, you know, what's the next step you can do now or even like tomorrow, rather than like going out a million years in the future worrying about everything that happened in the past and remaining a victim to the past. Like there literally is no such thing as a past or the future. And there really only is the now. So it's like, how can we show up for the now how can we make the best of now how can we make this right here right now the best moment? How can we accept our circumstances and stay excited for a motive for our goals? So I would love to hear your thoughts on that. Because I know that's something you've like really worked on. And like, I just feel like you embody that. So so well. So yeah, I'd love to hear your thoughts on that.

Thank you. So this is something I'm really passionate about. And it's kind of my theme of 2020. Now that I think about like 2019 was like actually making money. And then 2020 was really like not sprinting to the next goal. And I had this realization, I think COVID brought a lot of people a lot of reflection. And it definitely did for me just having, you know, more time where we were just at home. And I was journaling a lot more I was thinking a lot more of slowing down more. And I realized that my whole life up until that point, which is like march of 2020 I believe that I would be happy when and it was insert blank. So like if I can I really can't think about happiness in like Middle School. I want to go back that far. I really don't know. But high school I can think back to high school. And I remember like in high school, I was like, I'll be happy when I have a boyfriend. And then I started dating Richie in college, so it was like that one was a while. And then once being rich, you were dating. I started my business pretty soon after and it was like I'll be happy when my business is successful. And then that wasn't Hold on, I think it's it's like what is successful mean? So then it was like all the happy when my business makes $200,000. And then in 2019, my business made $100,000. And we moved into our house. So it was like, Okay, I checked $100,000 box, but now I'll be happy when our house is perfect. And again, a lot of these goals were like really vague things that I could never actually achieve, right? Like, what is success? What is perfect, there's no such thing. So then it was like, I realized that those goals were harming me. So then I tried to like break the goals down. So it's like, I'll be happy when each room is set up and unpacked. But even that once I got there, it was like, it was just always something else. And so I thought, What's the point of making a million dollars? If I still won't be happy? What's the point of life? Right? Like, what's the point of any of this? Why are we here? And where does joy come from? And I realized, after, you know, I've been reading this stuff for years, but it just never clicked for me that happiness really is internal. And obviously, like having more money, and having more success can amplify it, like it makes things easier, you have more freedom, right. But if you never had it, to begin with, it's only going to amplify what you already have. So you have void, it's going to amplify more void, it's going to be even worse. So if you already have I'm not good enough, it's going to amplify that you're going to feel even more not good enough, you're just gonna have a million dollars in your bank account. So I did so much healing work on healing my relationship with time healing, what I believed brought me happiness. And I focused on choosing happiness today. And now as opposed to in the future. And I really feel like I've created that. And so now, I'm excited about my goals. I'm sprinting towards them. It's really fun. And I'm happy now. And I'm going to be happy in the future even amplified happiness in the future when I achieve those goals. But I'm already happy now.

And I realized through this process that a fear that I had in the past was if I am happy now, I won't have any motivation to work towards my goals. But it's just total BS is not true. I'm happy now. And it makes me even more motivated to work towards my goals, because I feel awesome. So I want to like do things from that awesome place. I'm like, I feel awesome. So I'm going to record a podcast, I feel awesome. So I'm going to apply to these speaking gigs. Because I'm the cream of the crop, like, I rock. I'm awesome. Like, my confidence is amplified, everything's amplified. Because I feel awesome. And like, you show it's like when you show up from that, like, I feel fucking awesome. I feel happy energy. That's a totally different, like showing up for yourself in your life, than when you're coming from the place of like, I hate my life. I can't be happy until like this did this. I'm a victim to this circumstance, that circumstance and everything sucks. And nothing's working about what Well, how do you show up or not? Please? Well, you probably don't show up or you show up with so much like overthinking and negativity and force and push and like you're like doing things because you think you should do them rather than coming from that place of like feeling amazing. Like, can you imagine like how your life change when you are able to show up from that place of feeling so good, rather than from that place of not feeling so good enough showing up in a place of not feeling so good. Isn't creating the life that you want? It's like, what if you just try this? You know?

Yeah, I love it so much. And there's a quote that's been inspiring me, it's actually inspiring my next book, I shared it with you already. But I want to share with everyone else. I encountered it recently. It's Wayne Dyer. And it's when the way you look at things changes the things you look at change. And so that is exactly what happened this year. Because when the way I looked at things changed, because I thought differently, like I had different thoughts, those different thoughts created different actions. And rather than just different, they were actually better thoughts, which created better actions. And so it's funny, like I started realizing how to make decisions to make me happier now, whether it be you know, I like to go for a walk in the morning by myself that makes me feel really good, like simple things that are literally free, or even things that cost money but then I was able to create that money in my life because I was showing up with a different energy like it feels good to get my nails done. I want to make sure I have enough money in my budget to get my nails done every month. How can I create that? And just like you have this energy of how can I rather than Poor me because of the happy thoughts and so like literally everything changes from those thoughts. So just start there and and trust that your actions will inevitably change. It's impossible for them not to

Yes, oh my gosh, I love that so much. And it's like changing the way you look at things changing your thoughts about them is enough to create change. And even if it wasn't you feel better anyways and You don't even need to change. And that's really what creates the change is letting go of the need for the attachment to the clinging to it, the forcing of it when you let go, that's it, you're in this energy of like surrender and letting go. And it's like, that's when things can come to you, rather than you having to chase and chase and chase and chase always trying to get to the next thing, which I know we've both done in the past. And we're, we're over that. But obviously, we're not perfect humans. So I love it. It's such a good reminder for everyone. And I wish that I learned it sooner to be honest. But I'm glad that I learned it now. Because it definitely would have been worse if I kept going on that trajectory.

Yeah, no, same. And it's like, it's scary. Because once you start achieving those goals and those things that you thought were going to be, then you'll get there, then then you'll be happy to have those things and you realize, you start achieving them and you realize, Oh, wait, I'm still like the same person, like nothing actually changed. You're like, oh, like, Well, shit, if this is an often like, what is and I think that's really kind of like, I think for both of us, it really put us on the journey of like, Okay, well, if it's not all these things on the outside, then we must go inward and figure out how to create that on the inside. And something that I've started telling myself this year is that I have an infinite source of happiness within me like it's infinite. It's always there. Like, that's our natural state, and we can return to it at any time that we want. Speaking of returning to that anytime we want. I would love if you could take us through a little visualization to get us in this energy of, you know, being really yeah, like at peace now. And also like having that excitement for our future and knowing that we get to have that and that what we have now is enough. So I realize that was so specific, but whatever you want to do.

Yeah, I love it. Let's do it. So if you're not driving, I want you to close your eyes, take a deep breath in. And a deep breath out. And I want you to imagine that you're waking up in the morning. It's Monday, and you feel at peace. Happy, excited. For all of the wonderful things this week is going to bring. I want you to note the sounds you hear around you to hear the sound of the ocean, hitting the sand at your beach home. Do you hear the neighbors mowing their lawn? Because you're in a fun family neighborhood? Do you hear your loved one next to you, asking you how you slept? What's going on? Take a mental picture of the sounds around you. As well as what it looks like. What is the room look like? Where are you? What time is it? What's on your agenda for the day. When you get out of bed, you feel deeply grateful and proud of yourself. Because no matter how hard it was, and how many times you wanted to give up, you kept going, you knew that you were capable of creating this life that was meant for you. And you did it. You're living it right now today. So you go downstairs, you make breakfast, your favorite breakfast in the world. It's so yummy. You deeply Enjoy your morning coffee or matcha or tea or water, whatever is perfect for you and your body. I want you to imagine that you have a really important meeting at lunch. And while there's a bit of butterflies, because you're human, you're mostly excited about it. Because you know that everything is always happening in your favor. And you're so excited for what this meeting is going to bring. So you walk into the meeting. And I want you to take a mental picture of who's there and what you're doing it this meeting. Are you signing a book deal? Did you sell your company? Are you buying your first rental property? Whatever it is that speaks to you and your heart. I want you to trust that that is exactly what is meant for you. And now, I want you to imagine that the day has gone on you've completed a few more tasks feeling super high vibe? Loving everything about your life. And for dinner, you're meeting your closest friends and family members to celebrate this big accomplishment. I want you to take a note of who's there, who are those people that are by your side, throughout your whole journey to success and take into consideration any of your senses that you can pick up on, the more vivid this visualization is the better. So what is the food tastes like?

What does it smell like? What does the drink feel like when it's going down your throat? What are you wearing? What is your best friend wearing? What is your mom wearing? What kind of environment? Are you in? Is it loud? Is it a popular bar where people are everywhere? Is it a private dinner, where you're the only people in the whole restaurant, take in all of the scenes, the sounds, the smells. And I want you to just bask in this happy, Joy filled energy, knowing that you created this. And you deserve every single thing that has come your way. And that will continue to come your way. I'm going to just take a few seconds to really feel into these emotions. So if there are the visualization, maybe it didn't come to you as vividly as you would have liked. There's nothing wrong with you. Some people are really specific manifest errs, and other people are more general and they just kind of feel the feelings. For everyone feeling the feelings is important because that's what makes us magnetic, our feeling is our vibration. So I want you to just take a few seconds to breathe in of the good. And breathe out. any fears that came up during this any negativity, any resistance, breathe in the good. Imagine yellow or white light going throughout your body and filling it and imagine all of the darkness going out of your body and leaving you. And now you are filled with love, joy, happiness, internal and external wealth, and everything your heart desires. And once you've really absorbed these feelings, you may open your eyes.

Oh my god, that was so magical. I'm going to tell you what that came up for me. So when I went to my office, I was drinking my matcha. And when I woke up my bedroom had like all glass windows, and there was like a forest outside and it's really nice. And I was drinking my matcha on the deck. And when I went to my meeting, it was Gabby Bernstein and she was we were having a meeting with my book because she was writing the foreword for my book, which I've literally never had that thought before. So I'm like okay, I'm on. I'm on board with this. It's gonna happen and then um then I forget what it is you're saying but there was at some point before you talked about the light I like literally was seeing this like white semi like, like, in my vision and then what else? What was the part? At the end for dinner? You went to dinner? Oh, dinner?

Yes, I was on my house in the backyard with all my people there restring lights, Maggie Rogers was playing on the music. And I was we're like dancing and eating pizza. And literally, I felt so filled with joy. Like I really felt that feeling now. And it's just like such evidence and prove. It's like, those feelings are available to us now. Like we literally just proved that. So that felt so good. And you're really really good at leading visualizations because I'm one of those people who I don't always see a really really clear picture but the whole time I had a clear picture so I loved it. So anyways, for everyone listening, please let us know what was in your vision. I literally cannot wait to hear just, I guess like God tag us on Instagram. I'm magnetically and Jaclyn's. I'm just gonna really cry tears of joy and gratitude. Well, on that note, is there anything else you want to share that's on your heart today, anything else that's coming up for you?
