intuitive eating Jun 01, 2019

What is intuitive eating?

Intuitive Eating is a non-diet, weight inclusive approach to health and wellness that helps you make peace with food and your body. What is diet culture?

Christy Harrison describes diet culture to a T. She says:

Diet culture is a system of beliefs that…

…Worships thinness and equates it to health and moral virtue, which means you can spend your whole life thinking you’re irreparably broken just because you don’t look like the impossibly thin “ideal.”

…Promotes weight loss as a means of attaining higher status, which means...

What are affirmations?

Affirmations are positive phrases, that when repeated, can re-wire your brain’s neural pathways leading to more uplifting beliefs and thought patterns. More uplifting beliefs and thought patterns lead you to take more uplifting actions. And more uplifting actions lead you to more uplifting outcomes in your life.

Affirmations are like work outs for the mind (which I’d argue is just as important as physical exercise, or what I like to call joyful movement). Over time, they can help re-program your subconscious mind and beliefs which will help you get into alignment with the life you really want to live.

For example, if you’re someone who believes you are worthy of love and taking...

A Spiritual Approach to Intuitive Eating

intuitive eating Apr 21, 2019

Learn how to apply manifestation and the law of attraction to intuitive eating to help you make peace with food and your body!

Alright, before you go thinking I am twisting the purpose of Intuitive Eating, hear me out.

I used to think you had to go to church every Sunday and pray to be “spiritual”….which i’ll be honest, never really resonated with me (nothing wrong with it if it does for you). I noticed, though, as I went on the journey to making peace with food and my body, it opened up this more spiritual side of me.

The more I connected with my intuition, the more spiritual I felt. As my freedom with food and my body expanded, it opened up room in my brain for this part of me.

Learning to listen to my body taught me how to listen to my soul and intuition.

It’s hard to put into words, but coming back into my body (after years of ignoring its innate wisdom through restriction, health obsession, diet trends, etc) really felt like a spiritual...

What is Diet Culture?

intuitive eating Apr 09, 2019

Diet culture is a lie we’ve been sold that in order to be worthy and loved. It demonizes certain ways of eating while praising others, leaving us super anxious about eating, shameful about our food choices and out of touch with our purpose.

Diet culture is a system of beliefs that:

  • Convinces us that in order to be worthy and loved, we need to make our bodies look perfect and eat the perfect diet (which by the way do not exist)
  • Demonizes certain ways of eating while praising others, leaving us super anxious about eating, shameful about our food choices and out of touch with our purpose
  • Food has moral character and that you by association are more or less worthy based on what you eat or what you weigh
  • Views food and exercise as the only factors in health and ignores the effect of genes, socioeconomic status, mental health, stress levels, spirituality, career satisfaction and more

Diet culture isn’t just about being on a diet. You can still be caught up in the culture of...

intuitive eating Apr 06, 2019

These tips will help you become more resilient to comments about food and your body on your intuitive eating journey. You can either take on the food police’s bullshit or you can check it at the door. And these 5 tips will show you exactly how you can do that!

What is the food police?

Anyone have that one family member or friend who’s always like “OMG you’re going to eat all of that?”. And you just want to be like “KEEP YOUR EYES ON YOUR OWN PLATE”? Yeah, that’s basically the food police in a nutshell.

The food police is basically that inner voice in your head or anyone else that makes comments about your eating or body that make you feel guilty or less than.

The food police creates unreasonable food rules, criticizes your body, tells you what you “should” and “shouldn’t” eat, demonizes certain foods while praising others and monitors your eating and exercise choices and judges you for them. In...

Intuitive Eating is NOT A Diet

It’s not surprising given the culture we live in that many people inadvertently turn it into the hunger-fullness diet. But, it’s not just about eating when you’re hungry and stopping when you’re full. If you’re just focusing on those two things, it’s easy to get caught up in obsessing over how...

4 Steps to Make Peace With Any Food:

1. Identify a problematic food or food situation for you

Think about a food situation or specific food that brings up guilt, stress or any other negative emotions for you when you think about.

2. Visualize having a positive experience

See if you can visualize it playing out perfectly in sync with your vision for your ideal relationship with food. No guilt, no negative emotions. Just freedom and ease. Close your eyes and really picture it. What does it look like? How do you feel? Imagine yourself navigating the situation with confidence, ease and pleasure. Think about how good it will feel to listen to and trust your body.

3. Act out what you’ve visualized

When that food or situation arises, see if you can play out that vision....
